I believe you got something wrong. As the serial devices are connected to your main computer, and (I assume) you have the smaart on that same machine, you shouldn't transfer the serial ports to the remote machine. You should control the devices by remotely accesing them, not by remotely connecting to them. So, you should not check the serial ports box in this particular setup. At least that's how I do it and it works perfectly
