Here I go again, replying to my own msg.

In my saga I brought back the Tascam US-122 and replaced it with an Edirol UA-25. No stuttering now!

But here are a few things to consider for others. I found there are reports of stuttering in the Tascam under other sound apps. So that discouraged me.

The Edirol on the other hand has a better written manual and likely a better written driver too. The manual actually walks you through performance settings in Windows (that I've never seen mentioned for the Tascam), that could very well have resulted in solving the US-122's problems.

I wish I knew what I know now when I tried the Tascam, as far as selecting optimum performance for background processes. This might very well be the key.

But it is Tascam's loss for not providing as extensive documentation to solving potential problems...especially in view of the long-going complaints of stuttering on their product line.

On the other hand the newness of the Edirol UA-25 and its possibly much-more up-to-date driver may also make it a better device.

I look forward to further working with SMAART with this device.

I also might add, that despite my local dealer's recommendation of the apparent better quality of the Tascam, I found it a bit "cheap" in build quality. The Edirol, IMHO, seems to be better built. Don't quote me on the S/N ratio though, because I really didn't compare that spec that is vital to the high-end gurus.
