Dirty secret time for Intel,
The Centrino is a re-worked low power chip based on the pentium three, and will crush the P4 on a per clock cycle basis.
Intel's thermal loads have continued to go up on the P4, as they try to keep speed up with the AMD Athlons. They've finally announced the P4 architecture is going no further.
Amd's latest Athlon 64 (on SOI wafers, I believe) outperforms the similar P4 at 1/3rd the power draw, according to the latest at Tom's Hardware.
The P3 line remains Intel's best chip ever for FPU, and performance/clock cycle.
