When you buy the software, you get the manual. I think it has everything to do with security, but I agree with you. I also don't think it is a useful deterent, especially with the software much less intimidating to look at. Getting inacurate results because of bad settings (due to the fact the user has no clue what they are looking at) doesn't seem to stop people from using pirated copies. It's been my experience even a lot of the owners don't know what's going on with SMAART. Folks I highly recomend training classes in this area. SynAudCon, SMAART classes, SIM classes, AudioSeminars.com, VDOSC training, are all good places to go.
